Why do we need a VPN?
If you connect two points over the Internet, the first apparent issue is that anyone “between” those two points has the opportunity to ‘see’ all of your traffic, i.e. all of your potentially sensitive information. The second issue is that one end of the connection may vary, either for salesmen moving between sites, or for people working from home using dyanmic IP addresses, in which case you cannot limit access based on location. Hence you can only rely on passwords, which are a relatively weak form of protection, easily compromised.
What does a VPN do?
- It will encrypt all traffic between points on the network making it unreadable to potential hackers?
- It will compress all traffic making your connections faster and more efficient
- Security is based on pre-shared 1024 or 2048 bit certificates rather than passwords
- Endpoints have ‘static’ virtual addresses so access can be controlled by location
- The software runs on Windows,Mac and Linux and is transparent to the user
- It presents all remote / diverse locations as if they were all on the same local network
What is included in the Package
We supply a fully hosted server which play host to your VPN, all of your machines then connect to this server. Software is then freely available for all machines that you want to connect – we will generate certificates on request. No hardware is required and there are no additional software charges with the basic package covering certificates for up to 20 machines.
